| Desription ......... While in high school, World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) Middleweight Chael Sonnen earned two National Greco Roman Wrestling Championships, and went on to achieve All American status as a wrestling at the University of Oregon (where he degreed in sociology). Since entering professional mixed martial arts, he has taken on top flight opponents, sometimes losing, but most often winning, and always entering the ring with tons of courage and a passion to win. Sonnen can dish some serious pound and ground, delivering KOs with the best of them, and has taken on fighters like Jeremy Horn, Paulo Filho, Amar Suloev, Renato Sobral, Trevor Prangley, and Jason Lambert. He’s also a businessman, running a real estate business on the side. Still, MMA is Sonnen’s true vocation: he’s the founder and owner of the Full Contact Fighting Federation (FCFF), which has featured a host of MMA luminaries, including Ed Herman, Chris Leben, Josh Haynes, and Chris Wilson. A few months into his professional MMA career, Sonnen made a promise to his ailing father: that he would defeat (then) UFC champ Tito Ortiz. That fight hasn’t happened yet, and Ortiz is no longer the UFC champ, but one may still hope for this intriguing match-up. Sonnen trains with Team Quest. |
