| Desription ......... With his ability to hammer his competition into submission, it’s no wonder UFC lightweight is known as “The Carpenter”. With his long, curly locks and his tattoo work, Guida didn’t look out of place on the construction sites where he once worked as a union carpenter and framer, but MMA fans everywhere are glad he chose the fight game as his profession. After charting some wrestling experience in the 2001 Junior College National Championships at Harper College, Guida put his dreams of competing in mixed martial arts on the back burner until 2004 when he went to see his brother Jason Guida fight in a small Midwest competition. Confident in his wresting abilities, Guida accepted the challenge to compete in a no holds barred match. Though he lost, the fight ignited dreams of professional competition in the rising fight star. These days, Guida is a prolific fighter, who in the thirteen and one half month period between October 23, 2004 and December 10, 2005 charted an amazing 15 wins in as many bouts with Combat Do fighting, Extreme Challenge, XKK, IC9 and King Of The Cage (KOTC). On March 10, 2006, Guida won the Strikeforce Lightweight Championship with a defeat over Josh Thompson. He’s known for his strong endurance, devastating wrestling moves, and a knack for pound and ground. Clay Guida has trained with Hellhouse and Midwest Training Center. |
