| Desription ......... Matt Hughes is one the UFC’s most visible fighters, due to his two time Welterweight Champion status and his recent autobiography, Made In America: The Most Dominant Champion In UFC History. Hughes’ victories include many notables, including Chris Lytle, B.J. Penn, Royce Gracie, Joe Riggs, Frank Trigg, Georges St. Pierre, Renato Verissimo, Sean Sherk, and Carlos Newton. Hughes’ remarkable record is due to the fact that his fights only occasionally go to decision, with Hughes frequently gaining submissions or KOs long before the clock winds down. A key victory for Hughes occurred at UFC 34, where he earned his first Welterweight Title.
Hughes is a grappler, a striker, a pound and grounder, and more, with a well rounded set of mixed martial arts skills that has led him to an occasional position as a coach for Spike TV’s The Ultimate Fighter reality television series. Over the span of his career so far he has had a long association the Miletich Camp, and currently trains with his very own H.I.T. Squad (Hughes Intensive Training) in Granite City, Illinois.
