Desription .........  Called “one of the most aggressive fighters in the world” by none other than PRIDE FC, Mauricio Rua has the astonishing win records to back up the hype surrounding his name. Proficient in Brazilian, Jiu Jitsu, Chute Style Boxing, and Muay Thai, Rua, or “Shogun,” always gives 100% in the ring, from the opening bell to fight’s end. With a mix of strikes, blows, kicks, and the occasional submission, Rua gives his opponents sheer hell, often in the form of KOs. No wonder, given Rua’s training history, which combines the above sports with American boxing, along with guidance from fighters including Wanderlei Silva and Nino Schembri.

Though Rua lost to the larger Forest Griffin in his UFC debut (via submission, during which Rua was forced to tap out), Rua’s future with the franchise looks promising, if his history with PRIDE, where he kicked and stomped his way to dominance, is any indication. Rua’s string of PRIDE victories began in October 2003, with a defeat of Akira Shoji. In following competitions, Rua bested Akihiro Gono, Hiromitsu Kanehara, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueria, Alistair Overeem, Ricardo Arona, Kevin Randleman, and the list goes on. Though Rua is currently recovering from injuries sustained while training for his fight against Griffin, he is expected to fight soon.

Rua began training in mixed martial arts at a young age, following in the footsteps of his older brother Murilo, and encouraging his younger brother Marco, who trains at Chute Boxe. Mauricio and Murilo recently opened the University of Fighting, or the “Universidad De Luta” in Curitiba, Brazil. The Rua brothers left the Chute Boxe academy in 2008, sizing up Massachussets as a possible site for a school, deciding on their Brazilian hometown instead.
